The Man in 119 .........

" The man in 119 takes his tea alone. Mornings we all rise to wireless Verdi cries. I'm hearing opera through the door. The souls of men and women, impassioned all. Their voices climb and fall; battle trumpets call. I fill the bath and climb inside, singing.

He will not touch their pastry but every day they bring him more. Gold from the breakfast tray, I steal them all away and then go and eat them on the shore.

I draw a jackal-headed woman in the sand, sing of a lover's fate sealed by jealous hate then wash my hand in the sea. With just three days more I'd have just about learned the entire score to Aida.

Holidays must end as you know. All is memory taken home with me: the opera, the stolen tea, the sand drawing, the verging sea, all years ago."

Dr. Seuss

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."

- Dr. Seuss

Jackson Browne (looks like it´s me and you again tonight)

She was standing at the load-in when the trucks rolled up...

She was sniffing all around like a half-grown female pup
She wasn´t hard to talk to....

Looked like she had nowhere to go

So I gave her my pass

So she could get in and see the show

Mummenschanz Strikes Again

I saw them live last night for the first time. Beautiful.

By strikes again I refer to a previous entry which mentioned them.

Tanita Tikaram

This song came to mind today, don´t know why. So I looked it up and remembered how much I enjoy it and how beautiful the singer is.

Turns out she even made a video for the tune. I was not aware of this back when the song became a sleeper hit. Check it out. Isn´t she lovely?

Burn Santa Burn

I know it may be considered in poor taste to laugh at this but nobody got hurt (except for the taxpayer of course).
It seems that a supersized Santa was placed in the town square of Balneário Camboriú, a city  located in the southern region of Brazil, specifically the state of Santa Catarina.
A steel structure supported the load of a cotton and paper Santa Claus. This article claims the cause of the incident has not yet been revealed but a source close to the Gritty Poet informs that some workers were welding part of the structure and the resulting sparks caused St. Nick to flame up.

Here is a video, quite impressive.

{Refrain:}

{au refrain}

Que tu m'aimais encore - me l'a-t-on vraiment dit ?

{au refrain}

You could be better than you are...

You could be swinging on a star.

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
[ Bing Crosby Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
A new kind of jumped-up slippery fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

And I

I love it when you give me things

And you

You ought to give me wedding rings

The posts leading up to the event were so well written that I can´t help thinking that the story as it continues will follow suit.
Congratulations.

From Rachinhas to Bond Girls

Finally someone opened up a school that teaches women to be spies.

One of the most important skills taught at the spy school is how to create a martini, something every woman should be able to do, with style.

Plus there is just something special about a girl who can save your life, fix your car, help the kids with their calculus homework and at the end of the day pour you a nice, cold, martini. Shaken, not stirred.

Since the girls from Buteco das Mina are amongst the few enlightened individuals who comment on this blog perhaps they should take the spy girl course, to be further perfected.

Yet since women need to be around each other so to gossip maybe the Bond way is not the best way. I think a team scenario is the better solution.

Below the three rachinhas, after completing the spy course, begin working for the Gritty Poet, sem carteira assinada obviamente.

Mr. Gates

Before I carry on I must say that I did not appreciate the seemingly spoiled outburst carried out by Dr. Gates when questioned by Sgt Crowley.
I still hold that opinion which does not invalidate inquisition on why Gates acted, or reacted, the way he did when questioned by Crowley.

This is a great interview, Gates relates his life experience, the interview occured before the Crowley-Gates arrest.

Marry young, Diana........

Ah The 6ths

These people did a sing along, pretty good I think. Lyrics below for your benefit.

You can have a Fall
And Winter of your own
Staying warm inside
Your Victorian home
But when the city's so hot
The winos burst into flames
When the Jesus freaks
Collapse with the weight of their claims

Marry young, Diana
I don't want to see you old and alone
And it's no fun, Diana
I don't want to see you
Rot in the home for aging spinsters

You should find someone
As loyal as a dog
Who will still love you
When you look like a frog
Someone to rock your chair
And bring you pink lemonade
Someone to peel you a grape
At one-hundred degrees in the shade

Marry young, Diana
I don't want to see you old and alone
And it's no fun, Diana
I don't want to see you
Rot in the home for aging spinsters

I Feel Pretty......

You make the call, who plays whom. I think Sandler is Gates and Torturro makes a good Crowley, except in the bar fight scene where the roles reverse. Obama is pure Jack.

Obama Nicholson works his magic

perhaps this is change we can believe in, but the boys need to work on it

Sure enough they can, yes they can.

Pretty funny and pretty serious this whole Crowley-Gates affair.
I personally think Gates was at fault, Obama understood why Gates reacted the way he did and took it from there, if the president did what he did out of oportunism or intelligence is beyond my pay grade. I do think that in the end something good came from it regardless of first intentions.
I know that I will not be alive to see the day when we all laugh at these things, but I do believe it will someday arrive.

Bauhaus Strikes Again

A Japanese band called Moralist which ended up here due to a Bauhaus search which turned out this blog.
Good blog and good links to many things Japan and all things music.

Torturing Canto

.... but then again maybe the coke float + codfish combo should be reconsidered.

Contrasts

Yet the blue wine guy, Remko Dekker, seems to direct all of Zuco 103´s clips.
Just goes to prove there is nothing wrong with mixing it up and multitasking, hence my coke float + codfish balls combo.

Of Alphaville, Scandinavia and Cupcakes

With the intent of posting an ancient Alphaville song called "Fallen Angel" I looked to find an appropriate image to match, preferably of the band itself.
So off to google images fui eu and after a search I found this which can only be described as a celebration of gorgeousness which in turn inspired me to use the picture above instead.
Oh yeah, below Alphaville´s "Fallen Angel", with the addition of "Lies" since to me it conveys Miss Automne´s depiction of Scandinavians. Think melody not title.
Now excuse me while I exit the door, stroll on my lawn of cupcakes, and kiss a lollipop tree.

For Him I Sing

For him I sing,
I raise the present on the past,
(As some perennial tree out of its roots, the present on the past,)
With time and space I him dilate and fuse the immortal laws,
To make himself by them the law unto himself.

The man who couldn´t read time

Andrew "Dice" Clay came to mind the other day. I guess someone mentioned the movie Ford Fairlane, which I thought was pretty funny, and that triggered my curiosity. What is Andrew Clay doing these days?
Well it seems he tried to make a comeback and it didn´t work out. Dice´s comedy is disturbing, obscene at times and can be very insulting if not taken for what it is. An over the top spectacle of political incorrectness.

Below is the man in his glory days.

Here is more recent footage, from his comeback attempt. He ends up insulting a Cnn anchorman during an interview. I think he planned to stir something up since back in the day it probably would have worked to his benefit to have an altrication "Dice style" with a geek from a major network.

Dice was succesful in the 80´s and alot of people could not believe it, he was hated by some, by many actually, but the times allowed for his shenanigans, even rewarded it.
What the then Dice haters didn´t understand, or accept, seems to be what Dice doesn´t understand now. These are different times.

Plagiarism 101
