Grittreview: "The Room"

"The Room" is a movie.
Movies are stories or events recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture.
-------------

"The Room" is to cinematography what the review above is to insightful commentary.

Now meet the director, producer and main actor of this gem - Tommy Wiseau.

Yes, it really is that bad. So bad that it's good. Plus, contrary to what the director says in the interview, and according to what the cast claims: Wiseau was actually trying to make a drama, not a black comedy.
Anyway, I strongly recommend this crapfest. You've probably never seen anything like it, and it will make you feel a whole lot better about your skills in whatever it is that you do. Also, viewing such an aberration will provide the courage you need to finally engage in that new activity you so want to try; yet refrain from due to a constant fear of failure. After all, you can't possibly manage to do worse than Wiseau and his crew. So bad, in fact, as to end up being so very good.

I'm giving "The Room" my top score: ***** Five Astergrits

Now before we part let us not forget: movies are stories or events recorded by a camera...

  1. Uh....ok. Well I have a few things I need to get off my chest after this disturbing display of human 'creativity.'

    1) What the f*** is he on? He's majorly strung out on something! Probably cocaine or heroin, I'm familiar with both (daily user) so probably one of those two, maybe both.

    2) He might want to invest in some scissors to "modernize" his hair style. We aren't in Transylvania.

    and finally

    3) I'm perplexed how his accent changes perpetually over the course of the interview. He starts out American, in the clip shown from the 'movie' he appears to be Australian, and then finally a little later on in the interview he obtains a foreign accent that resembles a drunk Brazilian child of a french prostitute that was having a little fun in the favela.

My my gritty, this was a wonderful way to start of the day!!!!!

    Abracos,
    Alex

  2. LOL.

The thing is he is actually LIKE THIS, just check out his other interviews on youtube.
Either this guy is a freaking genius or one of those rare cases of a complete idiot to whom destiny is very kind.
It is just amazing though, isn't it? His accent is just baffling, he is baffling, it is all so wrong. Yet Wiseau will have his name recorded in the annals of American cinema for making..."The Room". Meudeus.

  3. This looks amazingly bad (with the emphasis on amazing)! It honestly does make me want to watch a little more (a little). Another question that popped into my head is what is up with that woman's mouth? I'm talking about the interviewer. It appears she has some kind of stretching accident when she was young, perhaps trying to eat a whole slice of melon in one bite?

  4. Great. We have now established that both actor, and interviewer belong in a circus.
Although I must say that her look at the end, when Wiseau basically decides to leave the set before they finish and break, is priceless.

  6. @Jennifer

You may describe it as wierd but Tommy Wiseau laid the issue to rest when he explained: "The film does what it does".
How Cannes overlooked this philosopher king, and his art, is beyond me.
